#giveheartsforkids campaign

September 1, 2016

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Even though I am a very recent and very new oncology nurse, cancer is something that has been apart of my family and a cause I hold dear to my heart.

When I was just a wee baby, my grandmother was diagnosed with breast cancer. I do not remember all the logistics, but I know she eventually ended up having a mastectomy. My grandfather also battled with prostate cancer. Luckily, both my grandparents are alive today.
During nursing school, I was exposed to the specialty of oncology in numerous ways which ultimately led me to where I am today.

According to the American Childhood Cancer Organization, 15,780 children under the age of 21 are diagnosed with cancer in the U.S. Although not all cancer is terminal, childhood cancer is still the leading cause of death by disease. To help raise awareness I am partnering with Nurse Mates, a healthcare professional footwear, accessories, and apparel brand, in the launch of #GiveHeartsForKids campaign which will run the whole month of September 2016.

Nurse Mates will donate $10.00 for every online footwear purchase made here. Additionally, they will donate $1 for every new email sign-up and $1 for every image posted to Instagram. The Instagram picture must include the user's hands in the shape of a heart with the hashtag #GiveHeartsForKids. I have included an example below, or you can check my Instagram for my own post!

I hope that you will join me and Nurse Mates in spreading awareness about Childhood Cancer all September long.
