You may be following along with my journey, but really I want to be a resource here for you. So if you are a new nursing student, here are some things you should know:
- It is okay to be scared. Trust me you are not alone. I was terrified my first day.
- Socialize with your classmates. They are going to be your family for the next 2 or 4 years.
- Get used to not knowing something. But learn it the second time.
- Be confident. And if your not fake it. (at the right times of course)
- Ask questions. Your learning does not stop when you become a RN.
- Study! Study! Study!
- Never pass up a bathroom break. Seriously guys peeing is a rare occasion.
- Walk the unit your clinical rotation will be on. Open some doors. Know your way around.
- Be prepared to walk fast!
- You are going to want to give up... call your mom and cry...then continue on!
- Be friendly to the CNA. They will help you tremendously!
- Practice empathy, not sympathy
- Never, ever, ever pass up an opportunity to practice a skill (please make sure you have properly learned the skill first or can perform it)
- Cherish talking with your patients
- and of course Have fun!
Great tips!
